In January of 2009 Jackie Howie, owner of KICKS Exceptional Shoes, made the decision to host an event to celebrate the 10th year of her successful shoe boutique. In true “Jackie-Style” the event was to be fun and fashionable, but most of all it was to be an event that gave back to the local community. Breast cancer had touched Jackie’s life through her grandmother as well as several friends and thus this became the focus for the event.
“In the pink” was a phrase that Jackie wanted to use with this very special event. In some circles it means fashionable, in others it means to be in good health. In an effort to make it an action phrase, event coordinators suggested adding “get” and thus was born “Get In The Pink.”
As organizers continue to planning for GITP each year, Jackie continues to be the driving force behind the event offering her time, ideas, and contacts. Thanks, Jackie!
